Résumé

Using public comparative survey data from Switzerland and other European countries, we analyze differences between public, private, and hybrid sector employees' working time (N=5'297). From full flexibility to fixed time, by way of telework, or working on the move, a large spectrum of working conditions exist that may affect public, private, and hybrid sector employees' working time, and performances. Our ANOVA, and regression analyses reveal that while private firms offer more flextime opportunities to their employees, they are also where employees do more overtime. It also appears that some types of Flextime arrangement, notably related to work schedule or the habitual place of work generate more overtime when used in public, and hybrid sector settings. These findings firstly contribute in debunking the myth of public employees always enjoying comfortable working conditions. They also provide insights for a better specification of the role of flextime working arrangements for the design of the Hybrid workplaces to come.
