Abstract

This research sheds new light on the business model innovation process that helps sustain entrepreneurial activity via digitally enabled business models when scaling internationally. Through a longitudinal study approach, studying how a local GPS hardware start-up company became a leading “pure” software international company, it identifies eight distinctive subprocesses that were grouped into three aggregate processes that enable businesses to innovate their business model by means of digitalization. The findings contribute to the literature on enduring entrepreneurship by building theory on how business model innovation occurs in a dynamic environment.
