Résumé

In a variety of sectors, internet-facilitated platforms based on the peer to peer economy concept have emerged that enable individuals to share their underutilized goods and resources and those new business platforms are often regarded as a threat to existing businesses operating in the respective sectors. Although abundant research on P2P accommodation rentals has been recently conducted, current literature on P2P accommodation sharing platforms has mainly focused on guests’ perspectives. In general, the number of Airbnb listings are positively correlated with the development index, the number of international tourist arrival, the nominal exchange rate and negatively with GDP per employed person. Airbnb is more popular in countries where the population is technologically savvy. Implications of the study and directions for future research are discussed.
