Abstract

Vulnerability assessment is becoming more and more a crucial point to be tackled in the framework of risk management of natural hazards. The assessment of the impact of these hazards on built environment is essential to all the public authorities involved in risk management and land use planning. The purpose of the present study is to collect the most significant methodologies for vulnerability assessment developed so far and propose some criteria to evaluate them in order to suggest the most suitable to a specific territory, e.g. the Swiss, in this study. This evaluation is carried out for three major gravitational natural hazards, i.e. landslides, debris flows and rock falls.
