Abstract

Introduction : As physiotherapist, it is essential to have a tool to evaluate the progress in the treatment of patients with Whiplash. To date, there exists no reliable and valid measurement instrument available to French-speaking physiotherapists. Objective : It was to carry out a transcultural translation from English to French of the “Whiplash Disability Questionnaire” in order to have a measurement tool for patient care. Method : The translation was done according to the process of Beaton and al. To measure the reliability and the validity, our “Whiplash Disability Questionnaire - F” was submitted to a sample of thirty-three people. Results : The test-retest reliability was good and has an ICC 2.1 of 0.79 (CI 95 % [0.62–0.89]) and a Cohen's Kappa between 0.62 and 0.77. The construct validity has a Spearman's correlation of 0.7 (CI 95 % [0.45–0.86]) indicating a good correlation with the “Bournemouth Questionnaire”. The internal consistency has a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.9 (CI 95 % [0.85–0.95]), which is good. Conclusion : Good retest reliability and high responsiveness of the WDQ-F support clinical implementation of the translated version. The designers of the original questionnaire approved the French version as a reliable and valid assessment tool. Level of evidence : 4.
