How to define and characterize social innovation in the field of social work? Conceived as an alternative to the technological approach, social innovation conceptualizes the implementation of projects with a high social impact to strengthen the democratic ideal. However, through the French-speaking literature, this reference does not benefit from an important endogenous conception of social work and remains suspicious for the actors in this professional field. However, a selected international literature shows that the concept of innovation in social work incorporates an attempt to articulate new social work responses to ever-changing social challenges, while strengthening the continuity of the values of this professional field. This article is a proposal to characterize innovation projects in social work, with a view to operationalizing this reference to the service of social workers, but also of the people who benefit from them.
