Local sampling of indigenous plants is the best source of material for renaturation sites. Along watercourses, Willows represent a key group for bio-engineering operations. In order to choose the material best-adapted to the qualitative and quantitative requirements for the certification of its origin (e.g. the recent introduction in France of “local plant” certification, the development of a methodological approach seems necessary. How can this be organized at the scale of a mountain range or a catchment area? From the creation of a reference typology for sampling to the conditioning of the plant material prior to use, we present all the stages in this approach. Fundamental during its early stages, the approach progressively includes the technical and economic constraints of the practitioner. It is based on various studies that have led to opportunities for collaboration between a university of applied sciences, hepia, a manager, the CNR (National Rhône Company) and a producer-collector, Ecosaule’ution.
