The touristic model of Valais facing climate change : geoprospective simulations of more environmentally integrated development models

This chapter presents a geoprospective study of the canton of Valais in the field of tourism economics in relation to the natural environment. The ski economy is essential in this area. However, it raises important environmental issues. Ongoing climate change is causing great concern about this economic model. For example, will this economic system, which allows populations to be conserved in the high valleys by offering them a professional outlet, collapse, leading to a massive exodus to the plain? We have tried to answer these questions by developing a geoprospective simulation tool based on a multiparadigm approach. This chapter therefore describes the methodology used and the results obtained.
