La formation des travailleuses et travailleurs sociaux est aujourd’hui structurée sur la base d’un modèle proposant un premier échelon de formation au niveau secondaire II, puis un deuxième au niveau tertiaire. Elle résulte de décisions politiques prises entre 1990 et 2005. La participation des organisations faîtières des écoles de travail social à la décision politique était principalement orientée vers la pérennisation de leurs offres de formation. Tout au long du processus, elles ont été confrontées à de nombreuses incertitudes quant au devenir de leurs propositions. Mais leur engagement a influencé la structuration finale de la formation et des professions du travail social.

The professional education of social workers is now structured on the basis of a model proposing a first level of training at secondary level II, then a second level of tertiary education. This training model was institutionalized in 2005, after some 15 years of political reforms. The participation of the umbrella organisations of the schools of social work in political decision-making, was mainly oriented towards the sustainability of their training offers. Over the course of political reforms, they were confronted with many uncertainties as to the future of their proposals. But their involvement in the formulation of policy decisions has influenced the final structuring of vocational training and professions in social work.
