Superconductive Magnetic Energy Storage Systems (SMES) can perform load levelling when operating on a power network with fast response to load variations and high efficiency. SMES operation limits in real and reactive power compensation are analyzed in this paper. Particularly, how these limits depend on the inductor current allowed variations is underlined, with special respect to naturally commutated converters scheme.
